Your past doesn’t decide your future
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, and now based in Atlanta, Nacho Vargas works in cybersecurity sales and lives with a passion for fitness, pickleball, and adaptive advocacy. After losing his leg in 2014, he rebuilt his independence one choice at a time. He has since lost more than 160 pounds, completed a Tough Mudder 5K obstacle race, grown stronger than he was before his amputation, and become a Special Olympics pickleball coach. Today, Nacho shares his story to help amputees and people with disabilities see that trauma can change a life without ending it.

Resilience
For Nacho, resilience meant getting out of the wheelchair, learning to walk again, and showing up even when he didn’t feel strong or positive. Faith, fitness, discipline, and keeping promises to himself helped him rebuild his confidence.
Empowering
Every new challenge changed Nacho’s question from “Can I still do this with one leg?” to “How am I going to do it?” He now uses his body, voice, and story to challenge limiting assumptions and show what life after trauma can look like.
Progress
Nacho measures progress against who he was yesterday—not against anyone else. Some days it is a new goal in the gym. Other days it is simply showing up. He is continuing to grow in his career, take on new physical challenges, and build a platform that reaches more people rebuilding their lives.
Service
Nacho serves by sharing both the struggle and the progress, and by coaching Special Olympics pickleball. He wants people living with trauma or disability to know they are capable of more than survival and that asking for help is part of moving forward.
